Recommend using 2×2 steel angle (make sure there is at least one very flat/straight edge); 3/4″ wide aluminum bar to use as a wear strip; and your 3/4″ thick sheet material of choice to construct the rails.

In the immediate aftermath of structural failures we often find “experts” willing to share their opinion on what may have caused an event, but if the individual is not directly involved with the assessment of the impacted structure they are likely in violation of the ASCE Code of Ethics.

With the recent partial collapse of the Champlain Towers (south) in Miami we are seeing many professionals express their opinion on what happened, and this is not an appropriate thing for them to do.
